MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
FEE-BASED BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAMS

For those parents considering going back to work and/or are presently working, there are 221 low cost Before and After School Care programs that serve both Elementary and K-8 Center students and 59 Middle School Enrichment After School programs that serve middle school students throughout the Miami-Dade County School district. Each of these programs are staffed with state certified instructors, state certified program managers, or state certified activity leaders who are all prepared to enrich and expand the after school experience of the students they serve .

This year, Miami-Dade county Public Schools will facilitate 280 After School Care programs on days when school is in session. Before-school care programs will be provided as needed.

All After School programs provide planned activities, which include homework assistance, indoor and outdoor games, arts and crafts, snack time and various recreational activities. Many programs offer reading and math tutoring, music, ceramics, chess, drama and other classes designed to provide participants with a variety of educational and enrichment experiences. 6. IS THERE A STUDENT REGISTRATION FEE OR A STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE FEE?

  • M-DCPS DOES NOT CHARGE A STUDENT REGISTRATION FEE HOWEVER ALL STUDENTS WHO WISH TO ENROLL IN ANY M-DCPS AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM MUST PURCHASE STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE. (THE ANNUAL COST FOR STUDENT INSURANCE IS $16.00 FOR GRADE PK TO 6 OR $18.00 FOR GRADE 7 TO 12). (OUTSIDE AGENCY PROVIDERS ALSO REQUIRE STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE AND MAY ALSO CHARGE A STUDENT REGISTRATION FEE)

7. IS THERE A REGISTRATION FORM THAT I MUST COMPLETE?

  • YES THERE IS. ALL SECTIONS OF THE REGISTRATION FORM ARE TO BE COMPLETED. EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION, AUTHORIZED PICK-UP AND THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT CHECK OFF IS MANDATORY. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU IMMEDIATELY NOTIFY THE BEFORE AND/OR AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM MANAGER IF YOU REQUIRE ANY CHANGES ON YOUR CHILD’S REGISTRATION FORM.

8. DO I NEED STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE EVEN IF I HAVE OTHER INSURANCE?

  • UPON REGISTERING YOUR CHILD, IT IS MANDATORY TO OBTAIN THE STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE ISSUED THROUGH THE DISTRICT. NO CHILD MAY ATTEND THE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM WITHOUT THIS INSURANCE. THIS IS A SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE PLAN AND IT IS REQUIRED EVEN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERAGE. THIS SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE PLAN DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERAGE. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH ANY INSURANCE LIMITATIONS AND OTHER INFORMATION PROVIDED THROUGH THIS INSURANCE.

9. DO STUDENTS RECEIVE SNACKS DURING THE PROGRAM?

  • EACH DAY A SNACK WILL BE PROVIDED AT NO COST TO YOUR CHILD DURING THE FEE-BASED AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM ONLY. PLEASE NOTIFY STAFF OF ANY FOOD ALLERGIES UPON REGISTRATION. IF YOUR CHILD IS UNABLE TO EAT THE SNACKS PROVIDED DURING THE AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM, PLEASE CONTACT THE AFTER SCHOOL CARE OFFICE. IN THIS CASE, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING A NUTRITIOUS SNACK THAT SUITS THE NEEDS OF YOUR CHILD.

10. ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS WHO WISH TO ENROLL IN M-DCPS FEE-BASED PROGRAMS?

  • STUDENTS WHO QUALIFY AND ARE VERIFIED AS HAVING FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH STATUS WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A DISCOUNT OF $1.00 OFF THE DAILY RATE FOR AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND $2.00 OFF THE DAILY RATE FOR FULL DAY CARE.
  • PARENTS OR GUARDIANS APPROVED TO RECEIVE SUBSIDIZED CHILD CARE THROUGH THE EARLY LEARNING COALITION (ELC) MUST ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES AS OUTLINED IN THE PARENTS RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SERVICE FORM. STUDENTS APPROVED TO RECEIVE ELC FUNDS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SUBSIDIZED ALLOTMENT THAT WILL OFF-SET THE COST FOR THE AFTER SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM BY UP TO $8.00 PER DAY (PART-TIME RATE) AND FOR THE ALL DAY SCHOOL CARE PROGRAM, UP TO $16.60 PER DAY (FULL-TIME RATE). PARENTS OR GUARDIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROGRAM FEES THAT ARE IN EXCESS OF THE SUBSIDIZED VOUCHER AMOUNT. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, THE ELC CAN BE REACHED AT 305-646-7220.

11. ARE THERE ANY INCOME TAX DEDUCTIONS APPLICABLE TO THIS PROGRAM?

  • CERTAIN PROGRAM COSTS MAY BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR FEDERAL INCOME TAXES AND IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU SAVE YOUR CANCELLED CHECKS AND/OR RECEIPTS FROM THE PROGRAM. ASK YOUR PROGRAM MANAGER FOR THE NEEDED IRS W-10 FORM (PROVIDER IDENTIFICATION AND CERTIFICATION).
